Fire Service Wins The Sagicor General Shield

Barbados Fire Service beat Psychiatric Hospital by eight wickets in the final of the 2013-14 BCA Sagicor General Shield final at Kensington Oval on Sunday. Chasing 81 for victory in 40 overs, Fire Service made 81 for two off 14.4 overs. The not out batsmen were Athelbert Brathwaite on 43 and Lonsdale Blake, 22. Brathwaite faced 42 balls and struck eight fours, while Blake received 22 deliveries and hit two boundaries. Jason Codrington was run out for one (4-1; 0.3 overs) and Shawn Sergeant, playing across, was leg before wicket by off-spinner Jamar Willoughby for ten (25-2; 4.3 overs). Psychiatric Hospital were bowled out for 80 off 26 overs after winning the toss. Veteran Alfred Alleyne topscored with an unbeaten 21 off 48 balls including two fours at No. 8. This announcement was made recently during a brief ceremony at Fire Service Headquarters in Bridgetown. During the ceremony Roger Corbie a representative of IRP Fire & Safety Ltd presented Ryan Lovell, President of the BFSSSC and Lonsdale Blake, Captain of the Fire Service Cricket Team with polo shirts to outfit the entire team. Group Coming To Assist Those In Need

As summer begins to sizzle, some New Yorkers and other culture connoisseurs travelling to Barbados, will not only boast of enjoying the myriad experiences offered during the island’s Crop-Over Festival. A Crop-Over Dutch party, Ladies’ Bikini Cricket, and a children’s event with the Barbados Fire Service will be part of the growing trend to do good, while having fun as the Barbados We Care - The Helping Hands organisation heads to Bim. The group, started on Facebook in October 2010 by Sue Bowen and Barclay Harris, with the specific aim of lending assistance to Barbadians and other Caribbean children and families in times of disaster and other areas of need, has joined with NYAL Productions of New York, to lead “philanthropists” to the island in late July.
