CAFF Elects New Executive Board In St Lucia

The Caribbean Association of Fire Fighters (CAFF) held its General Meeting and Election of Officers today Thursday, October 24, 2013 during its 7th Biennial Conference in Gros Islet, St. Lucia. The new Executive Board (2013 - 2015) is as follows: President Mr. Grantley Greene (Barbados), 1st Vice President Mr. Garth Lewis (Trinidad & Tobago), 2nd Vice President Mr. Andrew Holder (Guyana), General Secretary Ms. Sharon Nicholson (Trinidad & Tobago), Treasurer Mr. Elridge Straker (Barbados) and Assistant Secretary Treasurer Ms. Dehola Jacobs (Guyana).

Mr. Samuel Ilin (Martinique) and Mr. Mike Moncherry (St. Lucia) have been designated Trustees of the Association.

Chief Fire Officer: Not Enough Citizens Taking Fire Prevention Seriously

Chief Fire Officer Wilfred Marshall has expressed concern about the high number of structural fires taking place in Barbados, in particular private dwelling houses and commercial building fires. Marshall has noted that while some fires are due to carelessness on the part of homeowners and others have been deemed as “suspicious”, a number of these fires have been classified as “undetermined”. Homeowners and people in general still have a role to play in fire prevention, he has noted.
