Minibus Overturns At Gibbs, St. Peter

Fire Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at Gibbs, St. Peter just after 1542 hours today involving one overturned minibus. Two tenders under the command of Divisional Officer Lloydson Phillips and Station Officer Ormond Fenty responded to the incident. On arrival the incident was declared a mass casualty and the mass casualty response system was activated, 18 persons were reported to have received various injuries. The responding agencies included; doctors from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, personnel from the Emergency Ambulance Service, the Barbados Fire Service, the Barbados Defence Force, the Roving Response Team and the Department of Emergency Management. Fatal Motor Accident At Amity Lodge

Two persons were treated by paramedics after a motor vehicle accident at Bynoe Road, Amity Lodge, Christ Church just after 0143 hours this morning. The incident involved two vehicles, which were extensively damaged. Two tenders under the command of acting Station Officer Denton Foster responded to the scene, extrication was conducted by firefighters using the jaws of life. Car Damaged By Fire At Community College

A motor car received moderate damage (engine compartment) from a fire just after 0846 hours in one of the car-parks of the Barbados Community College, Howells' Cross Road, St. Michael on Friday morning. Fire officers from Fire Service Headquarters were quickly on the scene to contain and extinguish the blaze. There were no reports of injury as a result of this incident. (Photo: KP)

Arch Hall Station Closed Until Further Notice

The public is asked to note that the Arch Hall Fire Station will be closed until further notice to facilitate construction work at the station. During this closure, response areas serviced by that station will be covered by the St. James Fire Station, St. John Fire Station and also Fire Service Headquarters at Probyn Street, The City. The Administration of the Barbados Fire Service regrets the inconvenience caused as a result of the closure.

Fire Service Warns Home Owners To Check Roof Wiring

To reduce the chance of fire, householders and business owners need to regularly check their roof wiring. Speaking against the background of the recent spike in fires, Chief Fire Officer Wilfred Marshall is appealing to the public be more vigilant and cautious. So far this year, four house fires have been recorded, with the homes either being extensively damaged or destroyed. Meanwhile, there is concern that some homeless people have been causing fires at some unoccupied houses and buildings. Chief Fire Officer Wilfred Marshall says that neighbours need to be very alert about their surroundings to prevent fires from spreading or damaging their property. (CBC News)

House Damaged By Fire In Belleville

An unoccupied dwelling at 4th Avenue, Belleville, St. Michael was damaged by fire yesterday morning just after 0812 hours. The stone structure was extensively damaged and its contents destroyed. A second two storey building also received damage (windows and guttering) from radiated heat. Two fire tenders under the command of acting Station Officer Denton Foster responded to the blaze.

House Fire At Chapman Street

A house fire yesterday at Chapman Street, Bridgetown has cause a number of persons to be displaced. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire before it could reach other adjacent houses. Three fire tenders from Fire Service Headquarters under the command of Station Officer Tyrone Trotman responded to the blaze just after 1118 hours. The timber dwelling was extensively damaged. Frankie's Bar Damaged By Fire

Frankie's Bar and Canteen a popular food establishment located at Charnocks, Christ Church near the Grantley Adams International Airport was extensively damaged by fire around 2320 hours last night. Three fire tenders under the command of Divisional Officer Errol Gaskin and Station Officer Henderson Patrick responded to the incident. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the blaze.

Abandoned Laundromat Gutted By Fire

The fire alarm was raised just after 0415 hours yesterday morning when a passer-by observed fire in a building at Free Hill, Black Rock, St. Michael. The stone structure which formerly housed a laundromat was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. Two tenders from Fire Service Headquarters under the command of Divisional Officer Lloydson Phillips and acting Station Officer Denton Foster responded to the blaze. The building along with its contents were gutted by the fire. Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire. (Photo by KP)

Firefighters' Network Presents Food Items

Yesterday morning, members of the Bajan Fire Fighters Network assembled at Fire Service Headquarters in Bridgetown for a presentation of donated food supplies. During the brief ceremony barrels of non-perishable food items were made to Ms. Stacia Whittaker, Manager of the National HIV/AIDS Food Bank. Community Outreach Coordinator Ms. Shakira Simmons made the presentation on behalf of the organization and also pledged the groups commitment to support the National HIV/AIDS Food Bank.
