Fire In Pegwell Boggs

Quick action by the fire service on Wednesday averted what could have been a major disaster in a densely populated district in Christ Church.

Just after two o clock Wednesday afternoon, firemen responded to a call about a blaze at Pegwell Boggs.

One fire appliance from the Probyn Street headquarters and one from the Worthing fire station were dispatched to the area along with eight firemen.

When the smoke cleared two houses were destroyed and two others slightly damaged.

Up to news time, police and fire officials could not say exactly how many people lived at the houses.

The cause of the fire is still to be determined.
