The Intergovernmental Coordination Group for Tsunami and other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (ICG/CARIBE-EWS) in collaboration with local disaster and emergency services commenced Exercise Caribe Wave/Lantex 14 this morning from around 0600 hours.

The purpose of this exercise is to assist tsunami preparedness efforts in the Caribbean and Adjacent regions. The Caribe Wave/Lantex 14 tsunami scenario simulates a tsunami generated by a M 8.5 earthquake located approximately 270 km off the Portugal coast.

A dummy message was issued by the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) and the National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) and was transmitted to test communications with Tsunami Warning Focal Points (TWFPs) and Emergency Management Organisations.
